Answer: The white heart on the blue shield is part of the crest from Werner’s hometown in Germany, Wiesental, which recently celebrated its 700th anniversary. It emblazons our bins and tractors, and without our trying, has become our logo. The heart represents our guiding principles of social and environmental responsibility.
Answer: Our wines are available for sale at our tasting room and here on our website.
Our Tasting Room is open April through December, Friday through Sunday, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Tasting fees are nominal, and purchased wine can be enjoyed outside on the verandah overlooking the vineyard in the valley below. It’s a gorgeous view!
Wines are available for purchase through the website year-round, although we do not recommend shipping wine during the hottest months of the year.
A couple of our wines are also available for sale at Rebecca's Natural Foods in Charlottesville, Basic Necessities in Nellysford, and Friendly CIty Food Coop in Harrisonburg.
Answer: After a new planting is certified as organic, we make those grapes into organic wines. (The 2017 Cayuga White, which is currently on the tasting sheet, was made from our grapes before the planting was eligible for certification.)
In 2018, never-ending rains really put a hurt on our fragile organic crop. We did manage to harvest grapes and make wines, but not nearly as much as we needed. It would have been nice to buy organic Virginia grapes, but there were none to be found. So we sourced locally-grown hybrids (that were NOT ORGANIC) and made a couple more wines to round out the list. It should be noted these wines were made exactly as we make our own organic wines and faithfully represent the style, quality, and integrity of our operation. So there is no misunderstanding, we gave these two wines there own label and are calling them "Rain Wine."
Answer: Yes, of course. We do not serve food, so we encourage you to bring snacks and such. Just please clean up after yourselves, and no outside alcohol (a violation of our ABC license).
